Closing Your Account

How to close your ChessBit account and export your data — and what happens to your balance and records.

Before You Close

  1. Finish any game in progress and cancel any open game or challenge.
  2. Withdraw your whole balance to your own wallet. Closing doesn't check your balance first, and a closed account can't log in to withdraw. See How to withdraw.
  3. Download your data if you want a copy: Settings → Your data → Download my data gives you a JSON file of your account information and history (once every 24 hours).

How to Close Your Account

  1. Open the profile menu (your avatar, top right) → Settings.
  2. Scroll to Your data and press Close Account.
  3. Tick "I understand and confirm closing my account." and confirm.

What Happens After

  • The account is deactivated and can no longer log in or play.
  • Some records are retained even after closure: anti-money-laundering rules require us to keep transaction and verification records for the legally mandated period. They're kept encrypted and aren't used for anything else.
  • Game records remain in opponents' histories.

You can't reopen a closed account yourself; reactivation is only through customer support, and any balance left behind is out of reach until then. Withdraw everything before you close.
